Thrombosis is the formation of dense masses from the blood. These dense masses block the vessels, move along them with the blood flow (for example, from the vessels of the lower extremities to the pulmonary artery), and can be fatal. Thrombus formation occurs when:
- The integrity of the inner wall of the vessel is violated;
- Blood flow slowed down;
- Blood viscosity is changed
Pine nut oil enriched with sea buckthorn prevents the formation of blood clots, as it affects all three factors of their occurrence. It strengthens blood vessels, prevents poor blood circulation, and thins the blood.
Strengthening blood vessels
Pine nut oil enriched with sea buckthorn is a source of oleic acid. It has an atheroprotective effect, strengthening blood vessels. Due to this effect, it is used as an adjunct to the drug treatment of atherosclerosis. - Vitamin PP promotes vasodilation.

[2] Alpha-linolenic acid prevents the formation of cholesterol plaques on the walls of blood vessels, which can lead to the formation of blood clots. The positive effect of pine nut oil on cholesterol levels has been proven in a number of experiments, both with animals[3] and humans.[4]
Sea buckthorn has a similar effect, mainly due to the high content of choline. This nutrient reduces the level of cholesterol and the concentration of fatty acids in the blood, cleanses the walls of blood vessels from cholesterol plaques. In this way, both components of pine nut oil enriched with sea buckthorn have a synergistic effect in improving blood flow.
Blood thinning
Sea buckthorn is a source of isorhamnetin, a special flavonoid that has an anti-thrombotic effect. This nutrient has been found to inhibit platelet aggregation induced by any cause: stimulated by collagen, adenosine diphosphate (ADP), or platelet activating factor (PAF). The scientists concluded that “isorhamnetin has the potential to be an antiplatelet medicine for the treatment of thrombus.“[5]
The following nutrients from pine nut oil and sea buckthorn also has anticoagulant action: polyunsaturated fatty acids, folic acid, vitamins E and K.[6]
