Study: Sea buckthorn heals wounds more effectively than popular topical antibiotics

All products with pine nut oil have the ability to accelerate wound healing: pure pine nut oil, terpene balsam, and pine nut oil enriched with sea buckthorn have this property. The conclusion about the wound healing properties of our products is made not only on the basis of personal experience, but also thanks to numerous studies that explain the effect from a scientific point of view.

Today we want to tell you about an experiment conducted in 2021. [1] Its result confirms that pine nut oil enriched with sea buckthorn can be used for the rapid healing of wounds of various etiologies: burns, scratches, abrasions, and other types of wounds.

Scientists compared the effect of using sea buckthorn with the effect of silver sulfadiazine (SSD). SSD is a common topical antibiotic used to treat wounds (mainly burns). It prevents the infection from entering the wound and thereby promotes its healing. The researchers wanted to confirm or disprove the hypothesis that an all-natural remedy, sea buckthorn, may be more effective than SSD that is widely used in official medicine.

55 patients with second degree burns were selected for the experiment. This was a randomized triple-blind clinical trial in which random sampling was used at all stages, and blind method was used for all participants of the experiment (patient, clinician, and staff collecting statistics).

So, this study meets all the requirements for the purity of the experiment, and its results are not questioned. The authors also indicate an estimate of the probability of error as p < 0.001, which corresponds to the minimum level of risk of inaccuracy in the interpretation.

The patients were divided into two groups. One of them received dressings with 1% SSD, the second received a natural cream made from sea buckthorn. Dressings were performed until the wound was completely healed. The burn healing process was monitored using the Bates-Jensen Wound Assessment Tool, a 15-item objective measure designed to assess wound status and track healing. Parameters include the size of the wound, its depth, assessment of the condition of the tissues, epithelialization, and a number of other items. To conclude complete healing, doctors used the standard burn healing checklist that is accepted in healthcare facilities around the world.

As a result of the study, it turned out that the wound healing period in the group treated with sea buckthorn cream was shorter than in the group treated with 1% SDS. Complete healing when using sea buckthorn occurred 4-7 days faster. The authors of the study believe that this discovery can be used in healthcare facilities to reduce the burden on hospitals, as it helps to reduce the time of care for patients with burns and other wounds.

Pine nut oil enriched with sea buckthorn is an effective wound healing remedy created by nature itself. Its properties continue to find new scientific evidence. We closely follow the publications of scientists to bring you the latest results of scientific experiments.
