The use of pine nut oil enriched with pine resin for the treatment of sinusitis

Sinusitis is an inflammatory disease of the maxillary sinuses, in which a purulent secret accumulates in them. Diseases of the nose and paranasal sinuses are the most common pathologies of the upper respiratory tract. Acute and chronic sinusitis is the second most common among ENT problems.

In order to cure sinusitis, complex therapy is needed:

  • Elimination of the most common causes of the disease: SARS and influenza
  • Caring for the nasal mucosa
  • Treatment of inflammatory processes.

Pine nut oil enriched with pine resin helps to avoid sinusitis or accelerate its treatment, as it supports immunity, softens the mucous membranes of the sinuses, and fights inflammation. Let’s take a look at how pine nut oil and pine resin help in each of these situations.

Pine resin and pine nut oil are a powerful support for your immunity

Resin extract has a powerful immunomodulatory effect. It provides support for organs that are associated with the synthesis of T-lymphocytes that are important for the formation of immunity. [1] The essential amino acids contained in pine nut oil strengthen the immune system and increase the overall resistance of the body. In particular, methionine has such an effect. [2] Resistance to pathogens of any etiology (viral, bacterial, and parasitic) is also provided by B vitamins, vitamin A, and C, as well as rare acids, such as oleic and succinic.Succinic acid is contained in pine resin, therefore, for the prevention and treatment of sinusitis, the resin extract is recommended.

Resin extract is good for the mucous membrane

Excessive dryness of the mucous membrane and microdamage is a common cause of sinusitis.

Retinol that is contained both in pine nut oil and in pine resin, provides the protective ability of the integumentary tissues of the body: the skin and mucous membranes. Therefore, this vitamin is often called «the first line of defense against disease.» Riboflavin (vitamin B2), ascorbic acid (vitamin C), and tocopherol (vitamin E) have a similar effect. The lack of any of these nutrients affects the condition of the mucous membranes and thus can lead to the development of sinusitis.

Resin extract reduces inflammation

Sinusitis is an inflammatory process. By eliminating this root cause, you can reduce the discomfort during an exacerbation of the disease and eventually completely get rid of the problem.

  • Pine nut oil contains linolenic and linoleic acids. These acids are recognized by folk and official medicine: they are recommended as effective supplements to reduce inflammation and pain. [3]
  • Another acid contained in pine nut oil is oleic acid. It directly interacts with immune cells neutrophils that are responsible for the timing and intensity of inflammation of body tissues.[4]
  • Pine resin consists mainly of terpenes, including terpinen-4-ol that has a pronounced anti-inflammatory effect. In addition, as part of resin, alcohols and esters have an anti-inflammatory effect.

To combat sinusitis,it is recommended instilling 2-3 drops of resin extract into the nose or lubricating the nose with a cotton swab dipped in pine nut oil enriched with pine resin (this procedure can be done even for infants).

Be healthy!
